Rose Rudman Recreational Trail
Tyler, Texas
Developed concept and master plan for 10 mile linear park
along Mud Creek in Tyler, Texas. Prepared successful Texas
Parks and Wildlife grant application for phase one and acted
as lead designer and project manager for phase one
construction, which included 2 ½ miles of walking, jogging,
and bicycle trails (8' wide concrete), four bridges,
waterfalls, lighting, pavilions, information kiosks,
utilities, and landscaping. Total cost of phase one
construction was $760,000. Project completed in 1995.
In 2002, the City of Tyler received funding for an
additional 6 ½ miles of greenbelt through Texas Department
of Transportation. MHS acted as lead consultant responsible
for detailed site analysis, trail alignment, construction
drawings and construction management. The trail extension
was broken up into five phases, each of which had a variety
of design opportunities utilizing 10' wide concrete trails,
bridges, water features and extensive landscaping. The trail
extension project has an estimated cost of $3,000,000.

Atlanta City Park
Atlanta, Texas
A 1 ½ mile trail system in a regional park utilizing
rubberized asphalt material for trail surface. Trail
material produced locally utilizing recycled tires. Project
completed in 1997.
Ben Gill Park
Terrell, Texas
A three quarter mile walking and jogging trail as portion of
a major park expansion. Project completed in 1995
Big Sandy Park
Big Sandy, Texas
A half mile trail system as part of a new city park. Project
status - completed in 1997.
Big Fossil Creek Greenbelt
Haltom City, Texas
Prepared city-wide Parks and Open Space Master Plan and
developed schematic plans for big Fossil Creek Greenbelt
including cost estimates and development strategy for two
miles of trail along Big Fossil Creek. Prepared successful
grant application to Texas Parks and Wildlife. Prepared all
construction documents and plans, and administered
construction. Project completed 1997.
Wichita River Greenbelt
Wichita Falls, Texas
Developed concept of linear park along Wichita River and
schematic plans for development as planner for the City.
Project status - many phases of the project completed -
expansion of the project is ongoing.
Lake Crook Trails
Paris, Texas
Developed concept and master plan for 8.6 miles of trails
along the shores of Lake Crook in Paris, Texas. Prepared
successful Texas Parks and Wildlife grant application
through the Recreational Trails fund for the development of
8' wide, jogging, and bicycle trails, 5' wide mountain bike
trails, three bridges, lakeside observation decks,
informational signs, and parking.
Oyster Creek Greenbelt
Sugar Land, Texas
After the city-wide Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master
Plan - prepared by MHS Planning & Design was adopted by the
City Council, MHS was selected to prepare the schematic
plans for the Oyster Creek Greenbelt and submit a grant
application to Texas Parks and Wildlife. The project was
scored the number one project in Texas by Texas Parks and
Wildlife and the City received a $500,000 grant for a
portion of the construction.
The project includes a 2.7 mile multi-use trail along Oyster
Creek, a water garden with waterfalls and observation
platforms, picnic stations, parking lot and landscaping. MHS
Planning & Design and Clark Condon Associates prepared the
construction documents for the overall project and oversaw
the construction for the $1,500,000.00 project. Project
completed in 2000.
Brazos River Corridor Plan
Sugar Land, Texas
An outgrowth of the Sugar Land Parks, Recreation and Open
Space Master Plan, the Brazos River Corridor Plan entails
the design of 10 miles of the Brazos River for recreational
uses. The corridor plan also includes the design of a 240
acre regional park which will contain sports fields, a major
amphitheater, trails, canoe launch, picnic facilities, etc.
The plan also addresses re-vegetation and forestation in
certain areas along the corridor. The corridor plan
encompasses 3,500 acres of land along the Brazos River.
East Texas Rails to Trails
Smith County, Texas
Prepared a comprehensive master plan for the 19 mile rail
trail from Tyler, Texas to Jacksonville, Texas. The plan
included overall design, typical details, trail program and
detailed cost estimates for construction. Assisted in
developing a successful ISTEA Fund Application for
$1,700,000 for phase one of the East Texas Rails to Trails
project to cover 9.6 miles.
Faulkner Park
Tyler, Texas
Developed a master plan for the park and prepared successful
Texas Parks and Wildlife grant application through the
Recreational Trails fund for the development of 8' wide
trails, boardwalk, pedestrian bridge, rest stations, and
informational sign. Total cost of the project is estimated
to be approximately $200,000.00. Project Status - Completed
in 2005
Mineola Nature Preserve on the Sabine River
Mineola, Texas
As part of the overall development plan for the 3,000 acre
preserve, MHS developed a trail plan, prepared a grant
application and prepared construction plans for a 2 ½ mile
trail system. The trail is constructed of decomposed granite
and features a 120' custom bridge which spans a beautiful
beaver pond and marsh areas. Project Status - Completed in
2005
