The Green - An ECO Friendly Event Center

Location: Longview, Texas

Project Managers: Hunter N. Rush

MHS Planning & Design partnered with the City of Longview, as well as Keep Longview Beautiful, to design and build The Green, a 9-acre eco-friendly and outdoor event venue park. MHS developed a preliminary cost estimate of $1,212,464.00, managed construction contractors and sub-consultants, and was the primary construction supervisor.

The project included a nature play area with musical play instruments, interpretive signage, food truck parking, creek overlooks, outdoor classrooms, art sculptures pedestrian bridges, a pavilion, bioswales, native plantings, irrigation, trails, entry signs, and parking.

The Green is innovative because it was built using recycled materials as the main source for the project. It challenged our firm to find creative solutions to remedy the problems presented because of it’s location inside of a major flood plain. Because of this, The Green in Longview possesses one of the very first man-made constructed bioswales in the city. Keep Longview Beautiful was the champion of the project, and because of this, we needed to create an artistic, aesthetically pleasing park in addition to it being fully functional.
