Thomas Park
Katy, Texas
MHS Planning & Design partnered with the City of Katy to master plan Thomas Park, a Lone Star Legacy Park, located adjacent to downtown Katy. The park is approximately six acres, almost all of which are located within the 100-year or 500-year floodplain. The park required a master plan due to land acquisition that doubled the overall park acerage and the lack of major updates since the 1980’s.
In preparation of design work MHS managed various rounds and types of public input to collect the needs of the community. Connection to downtown, both physically and aesthetically, were key design choices. Ultimately, the master plan included a formal garden, water feature, additional parking, looped walking trail, enlarged gazebo, playground pods, native landscaping, and a reimagined Tri-County Marker plaza, which is unique existing feature on site.
