MHS partnered with Gregg County and MSA in 2023 to develop a strategic plan for improved paddling access to the Sabine River. The river had developed a reputation for crime and pollution, and the public desired to transform the overlooked water feature into a recreational asset. We performed extensive site visits by car, boat, and kayak, utilizing ESRI’s ArcPro software to geolocate and inventory points of interest. This data was used to create land use & access maps for public education, input, and needs analysis. It was also used to create conceptual renderings. The plan was honored as the 2023 cover story for the tourism organization called "Uniquely Longview."
