Land Use Plan
Mount Vernon, Texas
The City of Mount Vernon partnered with MHS Planning & Design in 2024 to develop a Land Use Plan. The Land Use Plan was an update to the City’s Zoning and Future Land Use maps, zoning ordinance, and subdivision regulations. In addition to planning for the Corridors identified in the 2023 Strategic Plan, the zoning classifications and land use categories were overhauled with Smart Growth principles and streamlined to reduce the number of classes while maintaining a low amount of nonconforming lots.
To be more transparent and user-friendly, the zoning ordinance was modernized to be navigable in digital format. GIS data was created and hosted online via ESRI’s ArcGIS Online for public use.
